For the first time ever, the National Arts Centre brings an intimate series of FOUR avant garde, provocative and potent dance shows to Ottawa venues from all over the world.

Beginning FEBRUARY 5, Face 2 Face presents the unusual, innovative work of seven choreographers from Sweden, Belgium, Croatia, the Netherlands and Canada.

1)      Sweden’s PHILIPPE BLANCHARD, who is known for his curious examination of the human condition, presents his 2009 one-hour duet HOW ABOUT YOU? at Arts Court Theatre on February 6 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. and on February 7 and 9 at 6 p.m. The dancers, Italian filmmakers and performers identical twin brothers Luca and Gabriele Stifani, portray polar opposites of life and death, good and bad, identity and self-discovery.

2)      Performers and choreographers GUILHERME GARRIDO of Portugal and PIETER AMPE of Belgium present their 2010 STILL STANDING YOU, a 45-minute naked romp that displays a novel perspective on masculinity and movement. Be prepared for something different at Arts Court Theatre February 5 and 7 at 7:30 p.m., February 8 at 6 p.m. and February 9 at 9 p.m.

3)      Canadian AME HENDERSON, an audacious, experimental choreographer, and MATIJA FERLIN of Croatia, who has performed his dance and film works across Europe and America, present THE MOST TOGETHER WE’VE EVER BEEN, a 65-minute 2009 duet that explores the awkwardness and the heartbreak of relationship. The show is scheduled to take place at Arts Court ODD BOX February 5, 7 and 8 at 9 p.m. and February 9 at 4:30 p.m.

4)      Award-winning Dutch punk rock dance theatre company T.R.A.S.H. presents two works in the NAC Studio February 7, 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. Joss Carter and Oona Doherty perform T † BERNADETTE, a 25-minute emotional and physical exploration of identity and male/female relationship, created by T.R.A.S.H. artistic director KRISTEL VAN ISSUM. Carter and Doherty also present ENCHANTED ROOM, a contemporary “fairy tale” that treats the audience to a 45-minute enchanted and hellish quest for a promised land, conceived and choreographed by VAN ISSUM and GUILHERME MIOTTO. Live music accompanies both works.

All four shows are available for $68. Individual tickets can also be purchased at the NAC Box Office or through Ticketmaster.

If you’re interested in the creative process, sit in on a lunch-hour discussion with the artists in the NAC’s Fountain Room on Friday, February 8, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
